GPE: Configuring Wireless Networking |
There are a few scenarios with wireless networking with GPE in Familiar. We assume Familiar 0.7 here. See also GPEBluetoothConfig and GPEIrDAConfig.
First, make sure your card is recognized and a suitable module is loaded. Use the Settings>PC/CF Cards applet for this. Use the button with the green arrow (second from right) to get the "Assign Driver" dialog:
Note the "Device:" that is shown here, you might need it later. If you need help about the usage of the applet, you can use the Interactive Help (gpe-what) dock applet to find out what the single parts of the applet are used for.
http://pcmcia-cs.sourceforge.net/ftp/SUPPORTED.CARDS might give you an idea what driver you need to select for your card.
Network in Infrastructure/Managed Mode
Should work out of the box.
Network in Ad-hoc Mode
Use WLAN Config to set your card to ad-hoc mode and configure ESSID and channel if necessary:
Eject and re-insert your card. If you have the Wireless Monitor added to your dock, it should show a signal by turning red (assuming that you have another wifi card active).
Set Ad-hoc mode as described above if necessary.
Assign an IP address and a netmask (the rest is optional) with the Settings>Network Setup applet. Use the device that was shown for your card in the PC/CF Cards applet (most likely wlan0 or eth0/1):
Set a WEP key with WLAN Config:
You may find out more about your current network configuration by using the info dialog in the Network Setup applet. This is especially useful if you want to find out if your network interface using DHCP was successfully configured or not. All interfaces not shown in this dialog are down or of type "Loopback".
