GPE: Package Manager

Function	gpe-package is a graphical fronted for the IPKG package manager. It is used to install and remove software and language support packages.

Status	gpe-package basically works but could need some improvement of the user interface and enhanced testing. The source code can be found in CVS, module base/gpe-package. Distributions known to ship gpe-package are: Familiar OpenZaurus Angstrom gpe-package is distributed under the GPL.
Technical	The application is based on libipkg which is a very simple library encapsulation for the IPKG package manager. The high latency for all package operations is caused by the fact that the package status database is parsed for every operation. Improving libipkg behaviour would fix this issue. Even if installed setuid root gpe-package forks a user interface process which drops its privileges.
